About expo africa

Founded in 2004, Expo Africa are a leading below-the-line marketing and research service provider in Southern Africa. Our business is built on a foundation of valued client partnerships and a passion to build brands in Africa. In collaboration with our clients, we develop and implement brand building solutions by country, by channel and by customer in support of strategy.

We are fully operational in Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Lesotho and eSwatini and control the route-to-market from a marketing activation perspective in all of our countries. We also offer third-party affiliations into several other African countries, including Angola, Malawi, Kenya and Nigeria. Our offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg support our operations in all countries and are a service to our clients based in South Africa.

​In-Store Activations – Expo Africa has a team of experienced brand ambassadors across all seven of our markets, who have extensive knowledge of all sectors and who know the trade customers by name. Our Expo Africa database allows for our staff to be chosen by experience, location, age and profile. Training and/or briefing sessions can take place before the activity if required and is done according to specifications provided.

Our extensive experience within this market allows us to arrange your activity on the busiest retail or busiest wholesale trade days, thus ensuring the correct audience/target market for your promotion.

Mall Activations – Activations held in Malls across our seven countries, usually in largely frequented areas of the busier malls, are a great way of creating brand awareness, as well as encouraging customer interactions. Mall activations are especially popular with the youth and include energetic and interactive demonstrations and competitions.

In addition to our knowledge and know how, we also provide comprehensive reporting, complete with photographs, feedback from consumers, sales and graphs to better analyse the success of the activation. Both the reporting and the promotions themselves can be adapted to your specific needs and wants.

In-Store activations work well to create a larger store presence for your brand, as well as increasing sales. Please contact us should you wish to pursue any sort of In-Store or Mall Activations.

Out-of-Store Activations – If it is mobility you are looking for, the best way to go would be an Out-of-Store or Roadshow Event. Out-of-Store venues include shopping centre displays, teams positioned at high traffic areas, office parks, office buildings, key gathering points to maximise exposure of your brands. Out-of-Store Activations are great for exposure and reaching a larger consumer base. These activations are usually mobile, therefore able to take the brand directly to the customer, before they even reach the store.

Roadshow Events – Our Expo Africa Event Trailers are each equipped with a stage facility, music and PA system, generator power, operator and driver, as well as maximum branding opportunities, as even while travelling the roadshow rig advertises your brand. Roadshows are a great way to create consumer awareness around your brand, and to bring your brand into contact with potential consumers in outlying areas who do not frequent the bigger shopping centres in main towns. Roadshows also provide the opportunity to increase sales at a wholesale level as well.

If a large scale roadshow is not quite necessary for your brand, you might consider one of our Food Trailers which are smaller, but still provide branding opportunities and mobility. We have all the necessary utensils, cooking apparatus and ensure the most effective and hygienic sampling based activations.

As with our other campaigns, we provide comprehensive reporting, pictures and video clips of our outdoor events. We track the number of customers reached and also are able to make recommendations based on what has worked previously in our seven markets. We can also provide statistical info if necessary. School Educational and Community Engagement Programmes Expo Africa offers extensive school programmes, which have proven to be effective due to children being able to take the product home. These campaigns offer increased rate of purchase, brand awareness and brand loyalty. Schools benefit from pack collection and other competitions, to win prizes and upgrades for their schools. We have seen the greatest success with products such as cereals, dairy products, hygiene and health products, but we are willing to take on any product of challenge. The school programmes are always welcomed by both the children and the community. We provide reporting on these programmes as well, which include post term reports, collection figures and prize handover ceremonies. 

These campaigns also offer goodwill to the community and allow for long term brand building. We have done engagements focussing primarily on mothers in the communities as well as the elders. These sections of the communities are well respected and valued in our countries, and the people appreciate the interactions. This ensures greater brand loyalty. Market Research and Pricing Surveys Expo Africa is equipped to provide detailed Market Research Reports and Pricing Surveys from all major towns in all seven countries. Surveys can be designed as per client requirements on information needed. Information can be varied from public perception and interest in a specific brand, or product market to sales trends and financial insights. Research is done up to 4 days per month and is split between various shopping centres and areas, targeting a wide range of demographics. A full report is submitted to client monthly, complete with all information gathered, graphs, details as per client requirements. Alternatively, we can do a focussed Market Research assignment over a period, focussing on specific demographics. This information will be provided in presentation format for ease of reference. 

Mystery Shopping In partnership with Ask Afrika and other companies, we provide mystery shopping services. We have experienced shoppers in all the countries who are well versed in the procedure of shopping and then reporting on their findings. No job is too big, or too small for us! 

Event Management We provide comprehensive event management for a variety of events including corporate events, product launches, trade fairs and exhibitions as well as staff workshops, charity days and sponsored events. Our exposure to Africa and our geographical expansion into all our seven countries has been driven in collaboration with the growth objectives of our clients, starting with Botswana in 2004 and followed by Namibia in 2008, Zambia in 2010, Zimbabwe in 2011, Mozambique in 2012 and Lesotho and eSwatini in 2017. We have invested in people, local market knowledge, infrastructure and route-to-market capabilities in order to deal directly with our clients from an in-country implementation perspective and in support of their geographical, channel, customer and brand objectives.

Our geographical exposure also continues to expand into the Rest of Africa by way of strategic third-party relationships that we have developed with credible below-the-line marketing and research service providers in those countries where we currently do not have a footprint. In doing so, Expo Africa remain the primary contact and are also responsible for the management of all activities in support of the clients in-country objectives.
